For many of us, finding a job that provides financial security is a top priority. While it’s always beneficial to have a healthy bank balance, an unfulfilling job can drain you of your enthusiasm and motivation. But because of the money it provides, many of us spend years doing jobs we hate. Many people believe that a meaningful career is not achievable or realistic. This, however, could not be further from the truth. No matter what you are passionate about, there are jobs out there that will provide not only financial support but fulfilment too. Use the following advice and suggestions to find a career you love rather than loathe.

Find a general direction

Being too specific about the meaningful career you want can stop your search before it’s even begun. So try to be more general in the early stages. Consider what kind of career you would love to have if money was not a concern. You should also think about the values and type of work you would like a new career to involve. This could be helping other people through education or sports for instance. While this may only be a vague idea, it can give you a better starting point to start your search.

Consider why you dislike your career

Another way of helping you start your search for a new and fulfilling career is by considering why your current one isn’t working for you. Your working hours might be unsociable or maybe your personal values are opposite to the company you work for. You could be working for a brand that sells leather goods when you are a vegan for instance. Write down everything you dislike about your current career to give you a clear indication of the work you shouldn’t be applying for. This will make it far easier to plan your approach to finding a suitable career that is completely different. Otherwise, you may find yourself applying for jobs that are too similar to the one you have now

Search for learning opportunities

If you’re unsure what your passions are, start searching for learning opportunities that can help you discover them. You’ll find that they present themselves in many forms from online learning courses to returning to school to get a degree. You could look into achieving attunements to Reiki Level 1, 2 & Master, which will allow you to assist people with sporting injuries. If you love films, you could join a local film club or online filmmaking course. The possibilities truly are endless; you just need to seek them out. Don’t limit yourself and be open to trying new experiences as you might be surprised at what you discover about yourself. This process will widen your skill set and open your eyes to new opportunities you might want to proceed with further.

So whether you want to go it alone or join a company whose ethos reflects your own, you now have the knowledge to start planning your future. Even though it may seem like it sometimes, you are not trapped by your job. You just need the courage to take the leap and pursue your dreams.
