The Google Pixel 3a: Is it the rebirth of the Nexus?

The new budget phone from Google, the Pixel 3a, was all the talk around the smartphone world for the past three months. And now when it has launched, the techies can’t get enough of it. Multiple headlines are rounding the internet on the subject. Everyone wants to know, is it the new nexus or is it good enough as the nexus? Is it an iPhone XR killer? Is it competing with the Samsung Galaxy S10e? All these queries will be answered in due time. For now, we are just excited that Google has decided to launch a new phone for the average citizen.

A little History about the Nexus Line:

Google started the Nexus line of products nine years ago in January of 2010. Since then, the users came to know the Google Nexus line as a brand of cheap, bloatware-free, high standard, flagship phones for the masses that opened a new dimension of customization. Google saw the design, marketing, and development of the phone; though, the phone was manufactured by other OEMs such as HTC, Samsung, and LG.

The significant features of the Nexus line were that the devices were free of third-party apps and bloatware (that in turn provided the “pure android experience” to the users) and they received the first update to a new Android version. The users loved this experience of freedom. The other thing that the Nexus were famous for was that they were cheap, albeit being Google’s flagship phones. The Nexus line had a feature of unlockable bootloader that gave the users the freedom to tweak with the software and modify the phone according to their taste.

The end of the Nexus line came with the Nexus 6, which was the most expensive Nexus smartphone. That is where, according to users, “Google changed its policy and didn’t care about customers anymore”. What the disappointed users want to say is that Google halted making budget-friendly phones. The Pixel line carried on to be Google’s flagship series. Moreover, the Pixel 3 XL being a $1000 phone is, frankly, out of budget for the majority of people.

Skip to present day, and after three years of high-end Pixel phones, Google has finally unveiled the budget-friendly Pixel 3a and 3a XL. Let’s discuss the features of these devices.
